Seven Steps to Finding Inner Joy and Peace

When you receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you receive access to all that He is and has, but you must activate those things in your day to day life.

Here are some practical steps you can take to finding inner joy and peace today with some helpful scriptures to go along with each one:

  1. Hear and read the word of God (scriptures from the Bible) everyday because His words instruct you on how to have joy.
    • Mark 4:20 “Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.”
    • Luke 11:28 “He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” “
    • Isaiah 58:13-14 “If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath and from doing as you please on My holy day, if you call the Sabbath a delight and the Lord’s holy day honorable, and if you honor it by not going your own way and not doing as you please or speaking idle words, then you will find your joy in the Lord, and I will cause you to ride in triumph on the heights of the land and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob.” For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
  2. Be saved and filled with The Holy Spirit; He gives us joy!
    • Luke 10:21 “At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what You were pleased to do.” “
    • Acts 13:52 “And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.”
    • Romans 14:17 “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.”
    • Isaiah 12:3 “With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.”
    • Galatians 5:22 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness.”
  3. Get away from the drama and noise and in His presence daily so you can receive joy and peace.
    • Mark 1:35 “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed.”
    • Isaiah 45:3 “I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, who summons you by name.”
    • Matthew 6:6 “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
    • 1 Chronicles 16:27 “Splendor and majesty are before Him; strength and joy are in His dwelling place.”
    • Mark 4:35-36 “On that day, when evening came, He said to them, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd, they took Him along with them in the boat, just as He was; and other boats were with Him.”
  4. Be aware of and cast out the enemy (satan) because he comes to take your joy in every area of your life.
    • John 10:10 “The thief comes only to steal the sheep and to kill them and spoil them. I have come so that people may live and that they may enjoy life to the full.”
    • James 1:21 “Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.”
    • 1 Peter 5:8 “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”
    • Proverbs 4:23 “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. “
  5. Pray and believe that God hears you and wants to give joy and peace to you.
    • Psalm 54:2 “Hear my prayer, O God; listen to the words of my mouth.”
    • Matthew 21:22 “You can get anything—anything you ask for in prayer—if you believe.”
    • James 1:2‭-‬3 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”
    • John 16:22‭-‬24 “So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy. In that day you will no longer ask Me anything. Very truly I tell you, My Father will give you whatever you ask in My name. Until now you have not asked for anything in My name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.”
  6. Speak life, joy, and peace to and into your mind, situation, and life.
    • Mark 4:37-41 “And there arose a fierce gale of wind, and the waves were breaking over the boat so much that the boat was already filling up. Jesus Himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Hush, be still.” And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm. And He said to them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They became very much afraid and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?” “
    • Proverbs 12:20 “Deceit is in the hearts of those who plot evil, but those who promote peace have joy.”
    • Proverbs 15:23 “An appropriate answer brings joy to a person, and a well-timed word is a good thing.”
    • Job 8:21 “He will once again fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy.”
    • James 1:26 “Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.”
    • Psalms 126:3 “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.”
    • Philippians 4:4 “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.”
  7. Join a joyful, peaceful, supportive, and Godly community.
    • Isaiah 52:8-9 “Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices; together they shout for joy. When the Lord returns to Zion, they will see it with their own eyes. Burst into songs of joy together, you ruins of Jerusalem, for the Lord has comforted His people, He has redeemed Jerusalem.”
    • 1 John 1:3‭-‬4 “We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete.”
    • Philippians 1:7-8 “It is right for me to feel this way about you all, because I hold you in my heart, for you are all partakers with me of grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel. For God is my witness, how I yearn for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus.”

When you read these scriptures, you will see that a vast majority of them are actionable and require us to choose to do or not do something. As mentioned before, having inner peace and joy must be cultivated and activated every day! This does not always happen overnight and can easily be lost overnight, but once you realize that it is gone, you now have access to the steps you need to take to get it back. With any habit, it becomes a part of who you are over a certain amount of time of consistently pursuing it. Be watchful to see that it stays a part of your life.

I pray that you will take these actions and words to heart and choose inner joy and peace today! God bless!
